I wish I could take credit for our house being mostly void of expired items, but I can’t. CJ is really great about making sure that all of our food, medications, and cleaning supplies are within “use by” dates. I am, however, really glad that Apartment Therapy mentioned cosmetics in the Day 4 guidance! I’m not really big into cosmetic and skin care products, so it’s not like I have tons packed away. Rather, I am a creature of habit and use the same things over and over again. I often get samples or pick up an eyeliner here or a lip color there to try…but then just go back to my normal daily routine.
How did I end up with so many lipsticks? I only have one pair of lips and I basically never leave the house…
Some of these lip colors were legitimately expired. Gross. Others have just expired for me, perceptually. Take that, lip colors! You’re dead to me!
Wash, rinse, repeat with some eye shadows. I only had four, but two of them were over a decade old…
Extra Credit and More Progress on Projects
Of course, I couldn’t stop there. Thanks to CJ consistently being on top of all the other perishables in our house, I felt like this was too easy. So I cleaned and organized another drawer.
The changes are subtle, but impactful. This is my most-used vanity drawer and it feels great to have gutted it, cleaned it, and disposed of things that will never get used. I also really enjoy re-using the cute little jars from candles in my drawer to help keep hair ties and other accessories organized.
I also found a use for some of those Glassybabys on my dresser, which is one of my items from my Home Project To-Do List. Check it out! I used them to organize some of my hair accessories. (If you’re not familiar with Glassybaby, they are a Seattle area company that makes super colorful, charming – and very collectible! – tea light holders.)
Going into the Weekend…
Day 4 was nice, with mostly subtle, gradual changes. I like that I’m not being tossed into shark infested waters, but I am ready to get out of the kiddy pool. I took a peek at Day 5 and that is going to be a much bigger project that will likely require multiple days, so it’s good that I get weekends “off” from the January Cure so I can use the weekend to do today’s project!
